It is shocking to discover that one in 20 people aged between 18 and 24 is economically inactive owing to ill health. Many are not physically unable to work but have been diagnosed with a mental disorder. A report from the Resolution Foundation think-tank found that more than a third of those in this age group experienced depression or anxiety.
